Reasons For And Remedies For Hormonal Headaches

Did you know that some headaches occurred only in women and not men? We all know how common headaches are among many people. No matter which gender or age they are in, you are sure to have experienced at least one headache during your life time. So what exactly are these headaches that are so unique to women? Hormonal headaches also referred to as hormone headaches occur in almost every woman the moment they pass puberty.

You guessed it right! hormonal headaches result from a change in the hormones inside the body. It is common knowledge that the hormones in our body do a variety of tasks that include the regulation of the metabolism level, stimulating growth and also regulating the production of other hormones in the body.

Due to a change in the hormones and various other reasons, the hormonal headaches can occur in a moderate level and sometimes turn into more severe cases. Women have a certain level of estrogen and progesterone in their body. When these levels fluctuate, a woman could end up with hormonal headaches.

The hormonal headaches tend to occur more during a woman’s menstrual cycle. Women who have experienced this say that their hormonal headaches are more like migraine headaches and they feel an increased sensitivity to their surroundings, such as loud noises, etc.

The hormone levels in the body can also change when a woman takes contraceptives. Studies show that some women who take oral contraceptives have ended up with severe types of hormonal headaches while the rest say that their headaches have turned out for the better.

The same way works for pregnant women. Some say that their hormonal headaches have increased whereas some say the opposite. Women closer to their menopause are lucky, as they are one category that find themselves relieved from hormonal headaches.

There are different headache treatments for sufferers of hormonal headaches. Doctors prescribe steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs for some patients. In addition, medicine such as aspirin and ibuprofen could be taken to lessen the effect of hormonal headaches.

If you are already suffering from migraine headaches, you might already have the headache medicine Triptan. Using this could also lessen hormonal headaches. Nevertheless, it is better to first get a proper prescription from a doctor regarding this.
